PLANT AND EQUIPMENT

Outside of Plant
Plant

Bourne Industries is located in Corunna, Michigan, a small town approximately 70 miles from the metropolitan Detroit area.  Our plant is conveniently located just 8 minutes from Interstate 69 between the cities of Flint and Lansing, Michigan.

We are housed in a 57,000 square foot, 100 year old mill building which has been in continuous operation as a woodworking facility. The construction is post and beam with a brick exterior.  However, we are constantly renovating the interior to assure that the manufacturing environment meets modern standards for efficiency.

Production Equipment

Our production equipment is described by function in the following paragraphs.
CNC Router

Laminating Equipment:
  • Cold Pressing:    A fully automated system for applying a wide variety of decorative and industrial surfaces to many different types of core materials.
    It consists of the following:

    • An automated indexing machine
    • A panel cleaner to remove dust and dirt
    • A calibrated adhesive spreader
    • A build-up station to apply surface materials to the core material
    • Two 5 foot by 12 foot cold presses to apply pressure to the laminated panels to assure complete adhesion of the surfaces to the cores
  • Roll Laminating:   This is an automated line for applying rolls of decorative and utlititarian surfaces to a continuous flow of panels or pre-cut components. Vinyl films and pre-cured decorative papers are most  efficiently applied through roll laminating.

  • Hot Pressing:    This is a multi-opening  4 foot wide by 8 foot long press that can operate at temperatures up to 330 degrees Farenheit.  It is used for laminating surfaces such as thermofused polyester, wood veneers, and paintable overlays to wood cores.
Fabricating Equipment:
  • CNC Panel Saw:   An automated 10 foot wide panel sizing line which indexes and loads "books" of panels from the rear of the machine and then rips and cross cuts the panels into square components.

  • CNC Machining:   To produce high volumes of components that require complex shapes, holes, slots and scribing, computer controlled equipment is essential.  Bourne Industries has the following CNC machinery for complex machining:

    • 5 foot by 10 foot three axis router

3 foot by 10 foot machining center

    • 4 foot by 10 foot maching center
    • 4 foot by 12 foot machining center
    • CNC horizontal drilling and dowel insertion machine
  • Edgebanding:     Both straight line and contour banding for up to 5mm PVC and 30mm wide wood veneers is accomplished with the following machines:

    • Three high speed CNC straight line edgebanders with edge shaping and corner radiusing

    • Two semi-automatic contour edgebanders
